A series of four images showing the fracture mechanics.

Fracture Mechanics: Fundamentals and Applications, now in its 4th edition, has been the top-selling title in its subject since the first edition was published. The latest edition incorporates many of the advances in the field that have occurred in the last decade.

The textbook is structured in a way to provide both accessible content for novice students and technical rigor for advanced readers. In the first four chapters that cover fundamental concepts, the main body of each chapter is written at the level of a senior undergraduate engineering student. Advanced content, including higher-level mathematical detail, is provided in appendices at the end of each chapter. Subsequent chapters cover material fracture behavior, fracture mechanics testing, and the application of fracture mechanics to structural components. The final chapter contains a series of practice problems.
